Dewey's 24-Hour Readathon: Pre-Event Introduction Survey

1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today? I'm participating from Boston, Massachusetts, USA.
2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to? I think I'm looking forward to finishing the pile of unfinished books so they can go back to the library.
3) Which snack are you most looking forward to? I'm trying not to snack too much because money is tight. I should go figure out lunch shortly though..if I can figure out what to make.
4) Tell us a little something about yourself! I'm a person who deals with mental illness, a writer, a cosplayer and a reiki practitioner. I'm using this to get some reading out of the way among various preparations for NaNoWriMo, assisting in a variety of classes, and preparing for a Halloween party at the day program I take classes at.
5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to? I think making progress on my reading list and just enjoying what's usually a lonely hobby with some socializing.

Dewey's 24-Hour Readathon: Update #1 (11:20AM) - Rin Chupeco's The Girl from the Well Review

It's now about 11:20AM and I've finished the short book I wanted to start, The Girl from the Well by Rin Chupeco. This book is horror, specifically Japanese-American paranormal and the first book in a series.
It tells several stories overlapping stories: a story about an onryuu -- a vengeful ghost who can't move on -- The Girl from the Well. A Japanese-American boy with a terrible secret from his childhood and his American cousin who gets tied up in it.
I am a huge fan of Japanese horror and this ties up nicely all my favorite parts from the movies and games I've played on the subject, weaving the mythology right into the story.

Dewey's 24-Hour Readathon Prep Post

This is my first year doing the Dewey's 24-Hour Readathon. I'm going to be reading with breaks to write and work on my cosplay project for Halloween and haven't decided when I'm going to stop but probably before midnight since I can't stay up too late.

What Would The Buddha Say About Recovery?: Writing A Short "Illness" Narrative Assignment

I recently moved out of my family home and in with my fiance and we had a bad housemate experience that required us to move again. The stress of moving twice in a short period of time made me fall behind on housework and I am suffering from and struggling with the overwhelm of drowning in the laundry. This suffering makes me feel frustrated with myself and my fiance because a lot needs to be done, culturally I'm not used to asking for support and help, and I really want to do it on my own.

I need to drop my storyline now because it is affecting other people and I am getting frustrated with myself and wanting it to change as soon as possible because I hate the way it makes me feel stuck in meltdown mode.

Today I have chosen to acknowledge that this is hard, but  to take today one moment at a time, check off each little thing that gets done, and appreciate it.
